For most married couples, having a child can bring much joy and happiness. The good news is that today, the process of adopting a baby has developed so that qualified people can adopt without the stresses and “surprises” that have characterized the adoption process in the past.

Adopting a baby today

The adoption process today assures adoptive parents that safeguards are put in place to protect the interest of the child they are adopting. However, it is still a good idea for couples to arm themselves with information on the process of adopting a baby.

There are basically two types of adoption - open and closed. In an open adoption, contact between the child and his biological parents or parent is allowed. Traditionally, adoptive parents choose to avail of a closed adoption to avoid any “hassles” that contact between the child they adopt and his biological parents may cause.

Nowadays, the process of adopting a baby gives married couples the assurance that they can have a stable future with their new child.

Foster Care Baby Adoption

The foster care system takes care of such children who might later enter the waiting lists of adoption. Alternatively, there are also some foster families.

Foster families are those that choose to provide the child a temporary home and family, a safe haven in a time of crisis. The prospective foster parents are run through a criminal background check, which they must clear. Under no circumstances can they have a history of child abuse!

State laws do provide for financial assistance for the foster families. One must remember that the foster family does not form a passive appendage for the child, responsible solely for his basic needs. The family also participates and interacts with the child’s social worker, doctor and teachers.

Would you be willing to accept the child completely, overlooking his background? It is natural for a child to be hesitant initially and not reciprocate your affection. You must also adopt an accepting attitude towards the parent though the parent might be the chief reason for the child’s problems.

Sometimes, the birth family is judged to be unsuitable for the child, after legal proceedings take place. A foster family can then foster the child until the biological parents legally terminate their parental rights. After that, the foster family can adopt the child providing him not only the basic amenities but also the care and emotional support he longs for, on a long-term basis.

Recently Kroll released a study of the employee criminal record backgrounds for both the financial and healthcare fields. In the healthcare field it’s important to know if there is any history of child abuse or criminial areas for a prospect that will be employeed by the company.

Healthcare positions can involve foster care, adoption, counseling kids, group therapy and many situations that involve young children and families.

In the financial area, employees are screened for many reasons, but identity theft is an important concern today. Companies are also worried about lawsuits and do not want employees to be obtaining sensitive data that makes the company open to a suit.

Sexual harrassment is another area that you need to protect your employees from and an employee criminal record help will help you with that.

Fortunately some crime databases are online for everyone’s protection. As an employer, take the extra steps involved in performing an employee criminal record check to show your committment to safety of your workers and your integrity.
