A miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of a pregnancy prior to the 24th week, due to natural causes. Symptoms

Cramps and pelvic and back pain could mean the loss of the pregnancy, as well as the sudden stop of the pregnancy symptoms (nausea, sickness, tender breasts, please see Signs of Pregnancy). If you have pelvic or back cramps or light spotting during your pregnancy, call your midwife or GP at once. Sometimes the ultrasound will show the end of pregnancy before any symptoms occur.

Signs

The most frequent sign of a miscarriage is the bleeding and an open cervix.

Why?

Sometimes, it can occur due to the mother’s natural incapability of carrying a full time pregnancy. In the case of a multiple pregnancy, the chances of a miscarriage are also higher.

If a miscarriage has started, there is very little to do in order to save the embryo/fetus. If after 8 weeks, no heart beat is detected, there is not much that can be done and it means that miscarriage has occurred. It is quite common to have two or more miscarriages, although experts recommend to ask for further exams if three consecutive miscarriages occurred in order to rule out any potential cause.

Is Pregnancy still possible?

Yes! Even after more than one miscarriage, pregnancy is achievable and it’s believed that a pregnancy cannot be affected in any way by previous miscarriages, if all the tissue and discharge have been cleared and no infection or any problems have arisen after.

Miscarriage - How Do I Know If I Have Had A Miscarriage?

Executive Sumary about After Miscarriage by Abhishek Agarwal

What is definitely important is, consult a doctor as soon as there are any signs of bleeding.

There are various signs that the doctor looks out for in case a miscarriage is suspected. Some tests can also be carried out. The commonest symptoms that the doctor will check for are abdominal cramping and vaginal bleeding.

A pelvic examination is more thorough. An open cervix heralds an impending miscarriage. The cervix is closed but vaginal bleeding is present - there is the threat of abortion (threatened abortion). Sometimes, the doctor goes in for measurement of HCG levels. It is only when she notices bleeding that she realizes that she may have lost a future baby.

The basic reason for a miscarriage is that genetic abnormalities do not allow the embryo to be viable. Even after this spontaneous abortion, a healthy pregnancy is entirely possible. Even here, the doctor is there to discover the cause and offer a remedy.
